Why I Might Be A Bad Voice Teacher…

One thing you never anticipate as a kid is that aiming to make things better could be seen as a negative thing by some people. I’ve dedicated a lot of my life thus far to helping beginning, intermediate and professionals learn how to sing (or refine their singing skills). In the beginning I needed a consistent approach that would help a broad range of people and backgrounds. Once I completed my training in Somatic Voicework, the LoVetri Method, I had a solid and flexible curriculum for just that. But as time went on I realized I really wanted people to enjoy making music and feel at home in themselves. (That’s not something you typically hear advertised by voice teachers).

Feeling at home in one’s body may mean that my students sometimes don’t write as many songs or have as many followers or make the best beats. I feel this is justified. Why? Because music is not a sport however I am looking at the long game. Music isn’t just for conquering or becoming a “master” of. Music is meant for ongoing learning. Music is meant to heal us from the inside out. It’s meant to connect us and transform us. And if you’re feeling bad while you’re making music, then it’s imperative that we figure out why before we race to “fix a note” or your profile pic.

If you want to learn how to do perfect runs, I may not be the one, but if you want to feel whole in your body and soul while singing from your heart, let’s talk!
