‘After our lesson, I felt my voice was opened up and warm, which allowed me a lot more freedom to improvise, and I sounded much more confident. It was surprising and fun!’

– Ruiqi Wang, vocalist/composer/improviser

How can I help you sing your truth and tell your story?

WELCOME!

My name is Pyeng Threadgill and I am a voice and movement teacher, professional vocalist, composer, author and voice over artist. My role as your music mentor is to help you find your unique voice so you can sing freely and make your dream project with confidence and joy.

How did I get here?

I struggled for years not being able to fully express the creative ideas in my head. I had all the musicality and artistic swagger but I lacked a certain technical know how. Even while I was performing in middle school, winning battle of the bands in high school, studying music at Oberlin College, and even recording my first few solo albums, I was still looking for my own vocal breakthrough. So it has become one of my personal missions to support other singers and sound explorers to become the best vocalists they can be.

Why? Because there is nothing as fulfilling as singing your truth onstage in front of others as you connect to both yourself and the musicians around you in this other-wordly language. In addition, sometimes there’s nothing as scary as singing or speaking your truth in front of others. Therefore you need a multi faceted approach to learn how to sing.

Become an embodied artist and thrive!

If you are currently or aspiring to be a singer/songwriter, performing artist or just want to improve your voice to sing and speak with confidence, then you have probably noticed that there are a number of challenges that can come up. Here are some of the most common ones:

  • Vocal Challenge #1: Technique

In order to sing well, singing ought to first feel good, or comfortable, in your throat and body so you have the vocal stamina and facility to communicate fully with your audience. But it doesn’t stop there!

  • Vocal Challenge #2: Fear & Self-doubt

Sometimes fear and self doubt can present equal, if not greater interference with your vocal freedom. In order to address performance anxiety you will learn how to practice paying attention to your breath and alignment, how to visualize an experience in a new way and how to use singing to move nervous energy through the body.

  • Vocal Challenge #3: Planning & Accountability

It’s easy for days and weeks to go by without a clear plan. Just knowing that you want to make an EP for example is not specific enough. That is why it’s crucial to not only identify your goals but develop a process of time management, emotional assessment and support in order to stay on course with your artistic goals.

If you’re here, you know that being a successful singer or artist requires you to master so much more than just your voice. And it’s not just about having a million likes on Instagram or being able to belt high notes…

Building a sustainable career as an artist requires a tricky blend of:

Technical Skill, Connected Movement, Self-Awareness, Authentic Expression, Commitment, Community

As a Voice & Movement Teacher, it’s my role to help you bring all of these pieces together into a flexible structure that helps you to own your voice and creativity on and off stage.
